What Went down at SXSW 2018?

sxsw 2018 trade expoSouth by Southwest or SXSW was held with a big bang on 9th March 2018. That’s right, last week Austin witnessed the biggest and busiest trade expo event in the region’s world of music. This was the 31st edition of the expo which offer 12 days of free outdoor live music for fans from all over the world. This promises to be one of the most exciting events on the US music scene calendar because it offers the opportunity for local as well as international artistes to showcase their music and host concerts for live audiences in one of the largest venues.

This year’s event was attended by an estimated 80,000 visitors which is an ideal opportunity for any musician to showcase their music. Elon Musk, HBO, Meow Wolf and Star Wars were some of the most popular events at this festival this year. Meow Wolf’s event in particular was popular with art lovers because of the unique talent and remarkable success story of his company. The exhibit featured a blend of psychedelic art that attracted thousands of visitors over the course of the event.

This was an excellent event for new musicians and singers to showcase their talent before an audience of thousands. Originally a movement to promote indie music, the event is now a regular platform for all kinds of music, including some of the biggest and established names in the industry. The event has now expanded to include film and social media as well, featuring filmmakers and bloggers on a regular basis. The event is a great place for budding musicians to network with record labels, press reporters, agents and distributors.

Some of the breakout performance in last week’s event included Billie Eilish, who is a remarkable 16 year old who enchanted everyone with her angelic voice and infectious onstage energy. She crooned some delicious numbers that simply melted in your ears. Lucy Dacus was another impressive performer at the event who also recently launched her debut album Historian. Another interesting performer was Liza Treyger who had the audience ROFLing with her stand-up comedy act. The audience of 3000 was simply amazed by her jokes. ELSZ, a New York based musician, enchanted everyone with her impressive tunes on the harp.

Of course, no music event is complete without K-Pop, beyond doubt the biggest music trend to capture the entire world in recent years. Jay Park is no stranger in the K-Pop circle and he was in his truest element on March 17. Starting music at the age of 17, Jay Park is now one of the biggest names in the local K-Pop scene as well as having a huge fan base in Asia. The crowd was enthralled by his electric performance which meant heart-melting lyrics and soothing vocals. One of the most exciting things about the event, apart from the fabulous performances, was the quality of the displays. It was a feast for the eyes to watch the amazingly well-designed display areas and booths that each musician and artist had designed especially for the event. ExpoMarketing is one of the leading companies that specialize in designing customized display booths for such expo events.

The energy from this event is unparalleled to anything else, and it was clearly much more than what was expected. There was also a much higher degree of professionalism and organization at this year’s event, considering the fact that the displays were more professionally done and the performances were managed and timed to perfection. One can hardly wait for next year’s event to witness even better talent and more energetic performances than this year.
