ITIL stands for Information Technology Infrastructure Library and it is used to coordinate IT efforts with business efforts. ITIL improvement in management practices could help to prevent the following three IT issues from happening in the future to other companies.

1. Youtube Crashes During England-Croatia World Cup Semifinal

YouTube TV, the internet-based TV subscription service implemented by Google, crashed in the middle of the 2018 World Cup Semifinal match. The men’s quarterfinal matches at Wimbledon were also being broadcast through the service during the time of the outage. A tweet from Youtube TV confirmed the outage, “Hey everyone — sincere apologies for streaming issues with YouTube TV. The timing is horrible but we’re working to be up and running again ASAP!”

YouTube TV’s Twitter account tweeted out that service had been restored quite sometime later. “We are so sorry about the service interruption and we understand your frustration. If you continue to experience issues let @TeamYouTube know,” the platform said in a tweet.

Youtube TV was advising users to use the Fox Sports apps and websites to finish watching the matches. In May, a similar situation occurred during Game 2 of the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals, which saw the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics going at it.

Launched in April of 2017, Youtube TV offers a lineup of over 50 traditional broadcast and cable TV networks. The “skinny bundle” was priced at $35 until it was raised to $40 per month this spring.

2. Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica Investigation Wraps Up

During the first quarter of 2018, Facebook was hit with a scandal when it was found that Cambridge Analytica had accessed over 87 million Facebook users information without the user’s permission. Now, at the end of the second quarter, user growth and sales will provide the world with an idea as to how hard the scandal-hit Facebook.

Facebook was grilled by lawmakers and faces continued scrutiny from various federal United States agencies over the situation. Still, Facebook use is growing across all demographics, despite calls for users to delete their accounts. Michael Pachter, a Wedbush analyst, expects Facebook to have grown by 46 million daily users around the world last quarter, down only two million from the previous quarter. On the other hand, he expects Facebook to add only one million daily users from the United States and Canada. Despite the scandal, those numbers aren’t worrisome.

3. Fears over the 2020 Consensus

The Government Accountability Office has warned that the 2020 Census in the United States faces a greater risk of cyber attacks due to new digital technologies that use cloud and mobile computing. The idea is that hackers could undermine trust in the data, stealing information for future attacks or even skewing results that could affect the political processes in the United States.

146 million housing united are expected to be counted beginning April 1, 2020. Census Bureau officials plan on updating the public about progress in systems development, testing, and other issues on August 3 of 2018.
